DAY 01 ARRIVAL / KUCHING
❱ Meet and greet at Kuching International Airport and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, proceed for a city tour. This is a comprehensive tour where you can see all the places of attraction around this historical city. The tour begins with a drive to see the gigantic Cat Status ( mascot of the city ) at Padungan before cruising through China town and a stop at the Tua Pek Kong temple (1876) - the oldest in Sarawak. From the temple, you can get a good view of the imposing Fort Margherita (1879), which now serves as a police museum.Proceed to the modern Civic Center Building one can get an excellent panoramic view of the city from its tower block. The route passes through the superbly-designed St. Joseph Cathedral, the Syariah Muslim Court, the Satok Suspension Bridge (1926) and traditional Malay houses built on stilts. Make a stop at the magnificent-looking Mosque built along the riverbank.Winding through the heart of the city, look out for the majestic looking Astana (1870) - former palace of the White Rajah but now the official residence of the Governor of Sarawak, and the old Colonial Law Court House - complete with a Clock Tower and a granite obelisk built in memory of Rajah Charles Brooke. The highlight of the tour will be a visit to the Sarawak Museum, which is acknowledged as one of the finest in the world. It is a treasure house of artifacts and exhibits, which possess great archaeological and cultural significance. Overnight.
DAY 02 BAKO NATIONAL PARK (Breakfast/Lunch)
❱ Morning, depart Kuching for a 45 minutes drive which passes through mangrove forest with its unique nipah palms before arriving at the Bako Fishing Village. Continue by a motorized boat for a 30 minutes cruise along the coast facing the South China Sea to reach Bako National Park. After visiting the Park’s information and exhibition center, proceed to the park’s western end by trekking through mangrove forest to observe the mud skippers and blue-fiddler crabs, Paku trail to look-out for Proboscis Monkey, climb to the plateau which is home to various botanical delights and several species of the carnivorous pitcher plants. Notice the changes of the vegetation (mangrove, rainforest, kerangan and padang forest). After lunch, proceed by trekking through the forest which boasts monstrous rainforest trees, indulge in bird watching and observe other wildlife. Journey back to the jetty, then by boat to Bako Village and return by car to Kuching.
DAY 03 KUCHING / LEMANAK LONGHOUSE (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
❱ After breakfast you will travel 290 km by car, with a few stops along the way: the first at Semonggoh Orang Utan for feeding time at 1000 hours. Then to Serian town, where we will stop for refreshment. You may wish to make some last minute shopping, for insect repellent or gifts for the Ibans at Serian. You can also visit a fascinating native fruit and vegetable market. The other stops include a visit to the pepper farm and a stop where you can observe plenty of wild orchids and also pitcher plants, insect eating plants. The last stop will be at “Lachau” a small up country Chinese Village for lunch. Here you can still observe barter trading being held between the natives of Kalimantan, the Chinese shop owners and the natives of Sarawak. Upon arrival at the river jetty, proceed by motorized longboat going up river against of the many rapids, padding and poling in the clear water of the Lemanak River underneath the cool thick over-hanging jungle foliage for about 45 minutes to reach the Longhouse. Proceed to the longhouse for a warm welcome by the natives, which comprises of "miring" (welcoming rituals) and cultural dances. Tour the longhouse, watch the natives at work such as making mats, baskets, handicrafts and mending fishing nets. Join the natives in their daily chores like feeding their livestock, washing clothes, swim in the river or just relaxing by the riverbank. After home-cooked dinner, return to the longhouse for social gathering with the "Tuai Rumah" (headman), the longhouse dwellers and presentation of gifts. "Tuak" (a potent rice wine) will be served and there will be more cultural performances (where you can partake) before retiring for the night. Overnight.
DAY 04 LEMANAK LONGHOUSE / BATANG AI (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
❱ After breakfast, witness cockfighting and blowpipe demonstration, followed by a jungle walk too learn about the privy, with the guide highlighting the various plants which the natives use for food, making traditional medicine, handicraft and watch how the natives set up ingenious animal traps. The trail also passes through a Iban burial ground. Drift down the river back to the jetty and proceed to beautiful Batang Ai lake. At the jetty, you will take a boat/ferry across the lake to reach the resort and check in. Overnight.
DAY 05 BATANG AI / ONWARDS (Breakfast/Lunch)
❱ After breakfast, return to the jetty, then by car to Kuching directly to the airport your next destination.
